Saying Goodbye

Dillon's best friends "Eji" (Eli) and Emma Patterson are moving tomorrow. While we are so happy for them, we are all a bit broken hearted to be seeing them leave. Our kids have been playing together since birth. I guess in a way, Eli and Emma have been Dill's pseudo siblings until Deakin decided to join our clan. Dillon and his best buddies have been riding bikes all summer and spring together. Dillon has been sharing Emma's "big bike" and so we thought we'd try and take a little of the pain of them leaving away by at least getting him his own big bike. He is totally thrilled by his new Spider-Man bike and helmet. Unfortunately, a bike doesn't replace his friends. And as he wept inconsolably tonight at the door watching them load their possessions into the moving truck, I cried along with my little guy, feeling his hurt and loss so much deeper than if it were my own. I couldn't help but think about the quote on my blog that says, "Making the decision to have children is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart outside your body." So, to our dear friends the Pattersons; you will forever be missed. And the back porch will not be the same without you Kristi.
